The big freeze is coming to an end but fresh snowfall has already been reported this morning in a couple of counties

A new warning has been issued for four northern counties ahead of another Status Orange warning coming into effect on Wednesday evening

A fresh yellow warning for snow and ice has been issued for parts of Northern Ireland from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday morning. The warning is in place for counties Antrim, Londonderry, Fermanagh, and Tyrone from 16:00 GMT until 11:00 GMT.

Several areas across the country are already blanketed in snow - with more on the way. Met Eireann says the bitter cold is expected to persist through the rest of the working week. It has extended a nationwide Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning until midnight on Friday,

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Please take extra care on the roads this morning especially on those which may not have been gritted. Clear your windscreen of ice before you set off and remember to slow down and increase the distance between you and the vehicle ahead."

Parts of Wales are set for another cold snap on Thursday, with two weather warnings in place for snow and ice. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice for parts of north, west and mid Wales from 00:15 GMT on Thursday until 11:00.

The Met Office has issued new weather warnings for parts of the UK, with yellow warnings for ice and snow in place until Friday morning. The two new warnings cover parts of Northern Ireland and Wales as well as areas in north-west England and the east of England - they come after an existing warning for snow and ice in parts of northern Scotland.

There is the potential for disruption across Northern Ireland as snow descends across the country. The Met Office has forecast hail, sleet and snow showers across parts of Northern Ireland this evening which could bring disruption to travel.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for North Wales due to ice which will be in place on Thursday and Friday (January 9 and 10).

Another yellow weather warning for ice has been put in place across Dorset. The Met Office has issued the warning, which is in place from 3am tomorrow morning through to 11am. This follows on from a previous warning that was in place this morning,
