Macy’s to close 66 stores by 2026 as part of a plan to shut 150 locations, focusing on growth in high-performing stores and enhanced customer experience.

Macy’s is closing 66 locations in its “Bold New Chapter” plan to focus on high-performing stores and scale back on underperforming locations.

Macy’s announced the closing of 66 of its stores nationwide, including five in South Florida, as part of its “Bold New Chapter” strategy. That strategy is hardly a secret as the New York retail giant said last year Macy’s would close up to 150 under-performing stores through 2026 in an effort to shore up flagging profits.

Macy’s has kicked off its plan of closing down several stores across the country. The retail giant previously announced the move in February 2024 while revealing their Bold New Chapter strategy. The closures of “underproductive” stores come as part of the plan.

Macy's Almeda location will close in March, marking the departure of the Almeda Mall's final anchor store and leaving 72 employees out of work.

All 66 closing stores will begin clearance sales this month that will run for approximately eight to 12 weeks, according to Macy’s FAQ page.
