A series of Milwaukee restaurants and chefs were named semifinalists on Wednesday for the 2025 James Beard awards.

Chuckie and Jamie Brown-Soukaseume of Ahan in Madison also are semifinalists in the category. They were the only semifinalists in Wisconsin outside of Milwaukee this year for any of the awards. The Midwest region includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

In the category of Best Chef Midwest, Milwaukee has a cadre of semi-finalists: second-time semifinalists Ross Bachhuber and Samuel Ek of Odd Duck; six-time semifinalists Daniel Jacobs and Dan Van Rite of EsterEv and second-time semifinalist Kyle Knall of Birch who was also named as a semifinalist for Outstanding Chef in 2022

The Eastern Conference starters will be Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks, Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics and Karl-Anthony Towns of the New York Knicks.

Kevin Durant is now a 15-time All-Star after being voted a starter for the West in the 2025 NBA All-Star game on Feb. 16.
