Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty bounced back on Tuesday after four days of sharp decline on easing retail inflation and a rebound in global markets

Indian benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex ended on Tuesday with modest gains, breaking a four-day losing streak, as a strong rally in banking, metal, and energy stocks lifted sentiment. However, a selloff in IT and FMCG stocks kept investors cautious.

Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, NTPC, Hindalco and Shriram Finance were among the major gainers on the Nifty, while losers included HCL Tech, HUL, Apollo Hospitals, Titan Company and TCS. On the sectoral front,

Sensex climbed 437.73 points or 0.57 per cent to 76,767.74. Nifty stood at 23,219.55, up 133.60 points or 0.58 per cent. In the broader market, every two stocks advanced for even one that declined.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a gap-up start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,280 level, a premium of nearly 118 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

Mid- and small-caps witnessed a much-needed respite with gains of 1.7 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively. The broader market has had a terrible start to the new year, falling nearly 10 percent already.
