Indian Railways is preparing for the Maha Kumbh Mela, expected to draw 40 crore pilgrims, by running 13,000 trains, upgrading passenger facilities and enhancing digital ticketing.

In preparation for the Maha Kumbh Mela, Indian Railways plans to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims with an extensive plan involving 13,000 trains and infrastructure upgrades. Additionally, a new rail division in Jammu will enhance connectivity in the region as part of a larger modernization effort.

The Indian Railways has announced plans to operate 3,000 special trains during Maha Kumbh 2025, with 560 of these running on a dedicated ring rail network, a senior official said. North Central Railway General Manager Upendra Chandra Joshi shared details of the extensive preparations during a press briefing.

To manage the anticipated massive crowds, over 18,000 personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and State Railway Police will be deployed in Prayagraj.

A total of 560 ticketing points will be set up across nine stations in Prayagraj and surrounding areas, with the ability to distribute 10 lakh tickets daily.
